Fighting Brain Cancer Can Bring About Athletic Success Stories

By Rob Sutter

I believe that the human race is an extraordinary one because the greatest stories come about when we don't really notice. We read about the stories of certain people and sometimes we wonder if we will be able to reach those levels of success. However, seeing them succeed gives us hope and I would like to believe that it brings a greater feeling in all of us to do better. Fighting brain cancer is a topic worth talking about and the story about Iram Leon definitely deserves to be mentioned.

An article which was shown on Beaumont Enterprises talked about the Gusher marathon and its winner, a patient fighting brain cancer named Iram Leon. He was able to pass the finish line at 3 hours, 7 minutes, and 35 seconds, a time which is quite impressive, to say the least. In order to prove himself further, though, he was able to go about the marathon while pushing Kiana, his six-year-old, around while she was situated in a stroller. This story of heart is one that deserves the attention of organizations along the lines of Voices Against Brain Cancer.

When you look at Leon on his own, it's clear that the condition has impacted him greatly. Not only has the cancer impacted his memory but he's not able to operate a motor vehicle, which most likely impede the work of a good number of people. The tumor is a troubling one because, as the article states, it is seen within the same area as memory, language, and spatial orientation. However, I feel like such instances have only made him stronger and his work in the marathon clearly displays this.

I believe that if there are any ideals which best describe Leon's story, they would have to be family and life in general. It's clear that he is suffering from a debilitating condition but that does not stop him from going about life in the best way imaginable. To him, this means being able to spend time with the family that he loves and not wasting a moment without them. Leon's case is one that is relatable and the importance of togetherness is seen on a universal scale.

Inspirational stories are not as commonly seen these days but the case of Iram Leon definitely deserves to be mentioned. I think that anyone, regardless of whether they're fighting brain cancer or not, would be doing themselves a great service by emulating the ways that Leon has gone about life. He understands the value of sentimental aspects and wants to invest time in those. That kind of mindset is one which anyone would be smart to take up and retain throughout the remainder of their lives.
